Winter is here and the ice cold weather is certainly upon us. Before the roads become icy, it’s important to make sure both you and your mobility scooter or powerchair are prepared.
Check your tyres
You should make sure that your tyres are fully inflated, your tyres have a sufficient amount of tread on them and that they aren’t damaged or worn. If they are, you should definitely consider getting them replaced with brand new ones before using your mobility scooter/powerchair.
Charge your battery before going out
The last thing you want is to be stranded due to the failure of a battery when out in the cold on your mobility scooter or powerchair. Make sure that your battery is fully charged the night before going out.
It’s also important to make sure your batteries are healthy. If you spot any signs of battery failure such as your scooter/powerchair feeling sluggish, failing to start or losing charge quickly – we recommend purchasing a brand new battery.
The cold weather can also have a negative effect on your battery so be sure to keep your scooter/powerchair inside when it is not in use.
Keep warm
As well as looking after your mobility scooter/powerchair, make sure you look after yourself. Ensure that you’re all wrapped up for the cold weather and that you’re well dressed in the event of a breakdown.
